Memphis, Tenn., November 9, 2016 – USA Cheer has announced that the LakePoint Champions Center will serve as the official training center for the 2017 U.S. National Cheer and Dance Teams. There are three U.S. National Teams, which represent the United States at international cheerleading and dance team competitions.
Located in Emerson, Ga., the LakePoint Champions Center is the largest indoor sports facility in the Southeast. It features 170,000 square feet of training space, including 125,500 square feet of the column-free floor space that modern day cheerleading requires.
“Our athletes are the reigning world champions, and it’s crucial that their needs are met in an environment that allows them to focus on perfecting their skills and their routines in the short nine days they are together,” says Bill Seely, President of USA Cheer. “LakePoint’s training center, provides the optimal environment for our coaches and athletes as they prepare to compete for another world championship.”
“The Champions Center was designed with an intent focus on Cheer. Our goal was to attract national organizations to our state-of-the-art facility by providing the largest clear-span competition space in the world and unparalleled ceiling heights,” says LakePoint CEO Earl Ehrhart. “To be recognized as the official training center for USA Cheer is an enormous honor and a great affirmation to the facility we have here at LakePoint.”
The LakePoint Champions Center will be home to the U.S. National Teams as they prepare to defend their International Cheer Union (ICU) World Championship titles in Coed Cheer, All Girl and Team Dance.
The U.S. National Dance and Cheer Teams will compete against teams from more than 65 other countries in April 2017 at the ICU World Championships in Orlando, Florida. The 2017 cheerleading teams will be coached by Tony Nash and LeRoy McCullough, and the dance team will be coached by Stacy Shelton. Over the last seven years, these teams have taken home 38 gold and 7 silver medals.
